Let’s hope things turn around for this family

The film industry can be quite a ruthless and unpredictable place. Yesterday’s hot-shot producer might just fade away into oblivion within no time. Ashwini Dutt understands it all too well.

The ace producer, who was instrumental in churning out commercial blockbu-sters like Indra , Choodalani Undi and scores of others, is witnessing a downward-spiral in his career. His last outing as a producer, under the banner Vyjayanthi Arts, was Shakthi in 2011 that sank without a trace.

A parallel banner, Three Angels, was floated by his daughters, who turned producers. Three movies produced under this banner too did not rake in the expected moolah.

After a hiatus of three years, Nani-starrer Yovade Subramanyam has been produced by his daughter Priyanka Dutt under a new banner, Swapna Cinema. The movie, shot in the foothills of Mount Everest, is about a corporate employee who ventures into the wild vexed with his mundane life. Let’s hope the movie, which hit the screens this Ugadi, and the new banner, turn out to be lucky for the family.

For a filmmaker, nothing can be more satisfying than his/her movie doing well and being in the recall of film buffs. That’s the case with this Bandipotu (thief in Telugu) which released recently.

Although it may not be a runaway success, it has drawn rave reviews and attracted the attention of viewers, director Mohanakrishna Indraganti says about his sixth film.

Beginning with Grahanam , Indraganti, who is consid-ered Mr. Clean in his films, has wielded the megaphone for Mayabazaar , Ashta Chamma , Golconda High School and Anthaka Mundu Aa Taravatha .

His is busy penning his next story. In fact, he has two on hand, but one of them is on fast-track.

“I am almost done with one commitment and after meeting the producer this weekend, I will start pre-production work.” “All I can tell you is it will be a comp-letely new genre for me and something I have wanted to do, for a long time,” says Indraganti when asked for a peep into his next.
