77-year-old held for sexual assault

The Salem rural police on Friday arrested a 77-year-old man on charges of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl in Edappadi here on Thursday. The police said that while the girl was returning home on Thursday, Velayudham lured her with chocolates and took her to a nearby place and committed the crime. On Friday, the girl informed her parents about the incident. He was arrested and produced in court in Sankari and lodged at sub-jail in Tiruchengode. A medical test was performed on the girl at the Salem government hospital. — Staff Reporter
