FDA seizes duplicate gutka worth 6.41L from Bhiwandi area

Thane: The Thane unit of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cracked its whip on a small scale industrial house that has been producing and selling banned gutka products in Bhiwandi area. The team confiscated hazardous gutka worth Rs 6.41 lakh along with machineries during an hour-long night raid.
The midnight raid was conducted on Friday under the supervision of assistant commissioner of FDA, Zone 5, M N Chaudhari, who led the team of two food safety inspectors-Santosh Sirosiya and Arvind Kandelkar.
Acting on a tip-off, the FDA officials moved cautiously to nab the accused while the production of duplicate branded gutka was on. The team caught Shaikh Israr Mohammad red-handed and confiscated gutka, pan masala, zarda, etc along with a pick up van, packing machine and duplicate roll of a branded gutka firm.
An FIR was filed at the Shantinagar police station and a case was registered. “Our team got the information about such illegal activity. Accordingly, our sleuths took all precautionary measure and successfully conducted a raid to find the entire set up of banned gutka manufacturing unit,” said Chaudhari.
