Gujarat: Jamnagar man posing as cop sent to jail

Based on Gosai's complaint, A Division police have booked Mahendrasinh for robbery and posing as a public servant.

A man robbing people by posing as policemen in Jamnagar city was sent to judicial custody by a local court on Friday after police nabbed him.

The A Division police of Jamnagar city produced the accused, identified as Mahendrasinh, before a magistrate on Friday evening. As the police did not seek his remand, the Mahendrasinh was sent to judicial custody by the court.

The imposter was arrested by police after Jasmingiri Gosai, a college student filed a complaint against him.

“Identifying himself as a policeman, Mahendrasinh had beaten up Gosai when the latter had gone for a walk at Lakhota Lake on Wednesday. The accused had also robbed the student of of two mobile phones, a wrist watch and cash, collectively worth Rs6,500,” A Division police sub-inspector (PSI) JN Solanki said on Friday.

The PSI said that Mahendrasinh was a resident of a village near the Jamnagar city and had been looting people by identifying himself as a cop for sometime.

“We have come to know of another case where he looted a person. Since we have recovered the valuables he had run away with, we did not seek his remand and therefore, the court send him to judicial custody,” Solanki further said.

Based on Gosai’s complaint, A Division police have booked Mahendrasinh for robbery and posing as a public servant.
