Belagavi commissioner takes industrialists to task before minister for huge tax dues

BELAGAVI: M R Ravikumar, commissioner of Belagvi City Corporation (BCC), took the representatives of industrial fraternity to the task, in front of small scale industries minister Satish Jarkiholi here on Friday, for maintaining about Rs 45 crores tax dues.
During the meeting of industrial fraternity headed by district in-charge minister Satish Jarkiholi at the DC’s office, commissioner gave deadline of 31st March to the industrialists to pay the property tax, and cautioned of taking stringent action against defaulters as per the rule after the deadline.

He said there will be no compromise in concern to the tax. “While the poor and middle class people are paying their taxes promptly, what is the problem with industrialists, he asked. Representatives asked for some extra time to paying tax which out-rightly rejected by the commissioner. He also told minister that some people are trying to misguide him hence he should careful of such people.
Ravikumar also said industries have maintained about Rs 10 crores dues of water tax since several years and that has to be paid before 31st March. However, following the request of representatives, he admitted to receive 35% of water tax till 31st March and rest amount in the next two installments. Industrial fraternity had demanded government to make budgetary allocation to waive off the water tax.
Speaking on the occasion, Jarkiholi said he will call the meeting of representatives of small scale industries at Bengaluru on 25th March and separate meeting will be conducted to hear the problems of industries in Belagavi.
MLA Sambhaji Patil, additional DC Praveenkumar and representatives of industrial fraternity- Basavaraj Javali, Satish Tendulkar, Vikas Kalaghatagi were present.
