Cian Healy: Joe Schmidt didn't kill me for Cardiff knock on, Twitter did

Ireland prop Cian Healy has said that while Joe Schmidt was forgiving for his late knock-on against Wales, social media was not as understanding.

The Leinster prop has been recalled to the starting team to face Scotland at Murrayfield tomorrow as Ireland go in search of a win and hope other results go their way in order to retain their Six Nations championship.

Grand Slam ambitions were dashed at the Millennium Stadium last weekend where a Herculean defensive effort from Wales helped the home side to victory.

Healy was introduced as a second-half substitute and was involved in one of the many Irish attacks, knocking on at the end of one particular multi-phase of action with Ireland camped on the Welsh line.

The prop says that the head coach did not go overboard in the video session, though the same could not be applied to the online reaction.

"No he didn’t kill me, everyone else did," he admitted to The42 when asked if Schmidt was scathing over the mistake. "Twitter killed me, Joe was alright.”

Cian Healy has said that Joe Schmidt was more understanding than Twitter following his costly knock-on against Wales

The loosehead has had to be patient since his return from injury and the form of Jack McGrath and says that being a replacement is a completely different mindset. “They say ‘fit in first’ and then do what you can, but it’s very tough. You don’t really have a fit-in process when you’re on the bench, you’re jumping into fairly full-speed rugby.”

“You’re not playing catch-up, but you’re in at a different level to others. So I suppose you’re fresh for many things, but the fluidity of the game is probably harder to get to.”
