Sunanda murder: SIT approaches Pak High Commission to question Mehar Tarar
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police may soon get to quiz Pak journalist Mehr Tarar in Sunanda Pushkar murder. Sources say that the SIT probing the case has contacted the Pakistan High Commission to facilitate a "meeting" with her.
Sources privy to the probe say that a letter has been written to the High Commissioner last week in this connection. TOI had earlier reported that the police may soon send an "official communique" for Tarar's questioning.

"If required, we will speak to her as she can throw light in the case," police commissioner BS Bassi had said last Thursday.
Tarar had earlier said that she is open to coordinating with the police in the probe. However, on last Thursday, she tweeted, "No comments. And that is my only comment (sic)."

Sunanda was found dead at Leela hotel's suite number 345 just a day after she was involved in a spat with Tarar on Twitter over the latter's alleged affair with Tharoor.
Regarding Tarar's examination, officers say there were bleak chances as there's no legal binding for her questioning by Indian Police. The "examination" will only happen if she permits it.

While DCP Prem Nath is likely to be sent to US to get the viscera report, DCP (II) PS Kushwah may travel to Islamabad along with some woman cops, sources said.

As Tarar is a woman, police cannot serve her a notice and only interact with her at the place, date and time indicated by her before sunset. The officer is likely to meet Tarar at her home or a cafe in Lahore. If she refuses, police may send their questionnaire in an email.
Tarar has figured prominently in the statements of several people, including journalist Nalini Singh. Singh had said Sunanda wanted her help in retrieving some BBM messages exchanged between Tharoor and Tarar with whom he was alleged to have an affair. She told cops and the magistrate that Sunanda had told her that Tharoor was going to marry Tarar after Lok Sabha election.
