THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A sudden visit to New Delhi by former KPCC president and home minister Ramesh Chennithala has raised many eyebrows in the political circles. He met All-India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday and discussed about the present political scenario in the state.
Sources said Chennithala had a detailed discussion on the controversies and developments that happened following the presentation of the state budget.
He has also met Congress working committee member A K Antony. The leaders close to Chennithala has said it is obvious that when he meets the AICC president, all political issues would be discussed including the deputy speaker election and Aruvikkara bypoll.
The I group has already staked claim for the deputy speaker post and Chennithala wanted to propose the name of K Muraleedharan to the post. However the A group is not ready to give up the post to the I group. Sources said that Chennithala would have discussed the issue with the AICC leaders.
The A group wanted to field K Sivadasan Nair as the deputy speaker. At the same time, RSP, another constituent of the ruling UDF, has staked claim for the post and had gone to the extend of announcing their nominee. The party had named Kovoor Kunjumon.
