MQM leaders’ names may be placed on ECL

KARACHI - Following the serious charges levelled against MQM’s senior leaders by death-row prisoner Saulat Mirza, law-enforcement agencies have been recommended to add their names to the Exit Control List (ECL) immediately.
Sources privy to the matter revealed that after a confessional video of former MQM worker Saulat Mirza released on Wednesday night by various news channels, the law-enforcement agencies were going to place the names of MQM’s senior leaders, including Babar Ghauri, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Wasay Jalil, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Aamir Khan, Waseem Akhtar and Senator Tahir Mashhadi, on the ECL.
These sources said recommendation to add their names to the Exit Control List (ECL) came after Saulat Mirza, in his confessional video, revealed that he had received orders to ‘hit’ former KESC MD Shahid Hamid from Altaf on a telephone call at the residence of MQM’s Senator Babar Ghauri.
The sources further said the law-enforcement agencies, including Pakistan Rangers and police, had also monitored the movement of the above leaders at the airports with the help of the authorities concerned though the Interior Ministry had yet to place the names of the suspected leaders on the ECL.
On the other hand, Sindh officials of the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA), Immigration, confirmed that the Interior Ministry had not so far placed names of such leaders on the ECL.
