Training in self defence

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore Texcity, and the NSS unit of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women jointly organised a training programme for girls in self defence recently.

It was aimed at teaching martial arts techniques. Students were taught simple ways to deal with unexpected situations using umbrella, pen, heels, and sling bag that could be converted into deadly weapons to escape from attackers. The training was conducted by Francis Xavier, managing trustee of Outreach Foundation India.

In another event the club donated books worth about Rs. 1 lakh to 10 schools for girls in and around Karamadai as part of Women’s Day celebrations. Executive Director of Karl Kubel Stiftung Ralf Tepel was chief guest.
