Diamond trader gets show cause notice for ‘cheating’

The diamonds were later found to be synthetic. The duo questioned the broker who later told them that he had got them from Chandu Sheta, a diamond merchant who owns a factory in Varachha area.

Chandu Sheta is also member of Surat Diamond Association and earlier, he was also a committee member of the association.

Borad and Kanani took up the issue with association president Dinesh Navadia and the diamonds were sent to Indian Diamond Institute for tests which further proved that they were synthetic.

The association had sent the synthetic diamonds and the certificate to the monitoring committee of natural diamonds of GJEPC. Sources said that in a council meeting of GJEPC in Mumbai, the members decided to surve a show cause notice to Sheta and asked him to reply in 10 days.

Navadia said, “We have come to know that GJEPC natural diamond monitoring committee had given show cause notice to Sheta.”
