MUMBAI: GRP commissioner Ravinder Singal on Thursday felicitated public servants as well as commuters who had come to the rescue of accident victims or had helped nab offenders on the railways.
Central Railway motorman Shyam Sharma was felicitated for stopping the train he was piloting to pick up an injured girl lying on the tracks in Thane. The girl, Renuka Prajapati, had been travelling between Thane and Mulund on March 11, when she fell off a train.
Sharma informed the station master of the nearest station and ensured that Prajapati was taken to a hospital, thus saving her life. Last year, Sharma had helped another commuter at Parel.
A 28-year-old Dharavi resident, Rizwan Khan, was felicitated for nabbing a pickpocket. The incident took place on platform 2 at Sion station.
Two constables and an assistant sub-inspector, attached with the GRP control room, was honoured for making efforts to trace the whereabouts of a 21-year-old youth missing from Nerul. They made calls to their counterparts in Gujarat and Rajasthan on March 15. Eventually, they found out the youth, Varun Krishnan, had been killed in a railway accident in Gujarat.
