SUPAUL: Three days after the 14-year-old daughter of Pramila Devi, sister of Triveniganj JD (U) MLA Amala Devi, was kidnapped from Birpur in Supaul district on March 16, police are still groping in the dark. An alumni of Government High School, the Class IX student Reena was allegedly kidnapped around 8 am on Monday when she was on way to her coaching institute in Birpur, police said.
Though the girl was kidnapped on Monday, a formal FIR was lodged with the Birpur police station only on March 17, giving leeway to the suspected kidnappers Mohammad Moin and Mohammad Arshad, said police sources. Reena was staying with her maternal grandfather Chulah Saradar at Parmanandpur under Birpur police station to pursue her studies. The alleged kidnappers lived in the same locality and were stalking her for quite some time. She might have been whisked away in a motorbike or some other vehicle, sources said.
Supaul SP Pankaj Kumar Raj said though raids are being carried out, police are yet to nab the kidnappers, who might have slipped into neighbouring Nepal. The investigating cops could reach out to the female members of suspected kidnappers' families only as the male members are on the run. The female members could not even help them by providing the kidnappers' cellphone numbers.
