Against the backdrop of an abandoned industrial mill, veteran Sabyasachi Mukherjee sent out his much-anticipated Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 show.
This season was a slight side-step from his usual homages to intellectual, mysterious women. Instead, the designer took on Seventies’ Bollywood with a show that was filled with sparkly mini dresses, floral printed jumpsuits, trouser and kurta combos and billowing, full-sleeved printed dresses.

All the models sported Zeenat Aman-esque rounded sunglasses and poker straight ironed hair as they strutted down the ramp. It was still sepia-tinted, as Sabyasachi usually is, but this time, it was a more relatable, fun version of nostalgia.

With more than a 100 looks on show, it was clear the designer was thinking of everyone, from his loyal bridal clients to Bollywood stars—many who were seated front row, from Kajol to to Deepika Padukone and Sridevi. The silhouettes ran the gamut from sporty cocktail shifts to tailored trousers and maxis and of course, lehengas and saris with crop tops. Perhaps it was exactly this excess that made it difficult to find a really stand-out piece. But can there be too much of a good thing? That is the question that Sabya will now answer.
