NITK Surathkal students top Mangaluru regional round of TCS TechBytes

Hemanth G and Mintu Jothish from NITK Surathkal have emerged winners in the Mangaluru regional finals of TCS TechBytes 2015 held at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Adyar here on Thursday.

MANGALURU: Hemanth G and Mintu Jothish from NITK Surathkal have emerged winners in the Mangaluru regional finals of TCS TechBytes 2015 held at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Adyar here on Thursday. Arpan Kunal Mishra and Nabil Silva from MIT, Manipal emerged runners–Up. The IT quiz was organized by Tata Consultancy Services and Board for IT Education Standards, an autonomous state government agency.
At the Mangaluru regional finals, students underwent a written preliminary round and the top six teams participated in an interactive quiz that was based on the theme of Artificial Intelligence and its relevance in today’s age. The animation based quiz format had the following five rounds – Knowledge Engineering, Means-Ends Analysis, Computer Time, Cognitive Simulation and Social Intelligence. Each of the rounds tested students’ spectrum of knowledge in IT sphere.
The Winners took home an educational scholarship of Rs 12,000, a glittering trophy and prizes from TCS. The runners-up received an educational scholarship of Rs 8000 and prizes from TCS. The teams that stood third to sixth received earphones, haversacks, pendrives, T-shirts and Fastrack giftcards. Umesh Bhushi, principal, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, and Suresh Ramaswamy Reddy of BITES, chief guests distributed the prizes.
The winners will now participate in the state finals to be held at Bengaluru on March 31. The highlight of the program was the live updates on the ‘TCS TechBytes’ android mobile app, which made it possible for students to follow the program closely. Nagaraj Ijari, vice-president and head TCS Bengaluru operations and R Natarajan, chairman, BITES said, “TCS TechBytes encourages students to develop a better understanding of the world of business and technology.”
