AHMEDABAD: The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) is witnessing an e-commerce sweep on its campus. The majority of the students who have opted out of placements are planning to start their ventures in the online or technology space, barring a couple of students -- who want to join politics or become an author.
Twelve students have opted out of placements this year.

Online classes for rural India

Arthi R, who was born and raised in Pondicherry, aims to bring a good collection of affordable, modern and fashion jewellery to youngsters in India and abroad. “I plan to launch an online store and mobile app from Ahmedabad,“ she said.

Is it possible to make a product of art? This is the fundamental question that gave rise to Welkin Canvas, an online marketplace developed by Kulothungan B to link portrait artists to customers. Customers upload photographs and select an artist to paint/draw it in a chosen style.

App to find sports facilities
Born and raised in Vadodara, Ujwal Sutaria, was an avid sportsman. Sutaria has developed Athletto, a venture to promote sports through an app that will help people locate the nearest sports facility and allow them to book it in advance.

When G Ramachandran was 18, he had to choose between entrepreneurship and politics. His role model is his father and AIADMK ex-member Singai Govindarasu, who Ramachandran plans to follow once he graduates to “bring in more accountability.
MasterCard CEO to be chief guest at convocation
Ajaypal Singh Banga, the current president and chief executive officer of MasterCard, will be the chief guest at IIM-A's convocation this year, to be held on March 21, 2015.
