When Miss India World 2010,
Manasvi Mamgai turned up at our Times Food and Nightlife Awards, she looked stunning in a white chikan sari. The model-turned-actor, who was last seen in Action Jackson, talks about her fondness for Hyderabad, acting and more.
Hyderabad Diaries My uncle lives here and I visit the city quite often. The monuments, the culture Im really fond of them.
The last time I came here, my cousin took me to Charminar and I even went up the minarets! Later, we went to a restaurant and I had the best mutton biryani, ever! The food here sort of reminds me of Delhis cuisine. Although I may not look like one, Im a big foodie (laughs).
Tough to break stereotypes I have been following Telugu films and in recent times, I saw 1-Nenokkadine, Yevadu, Magadheera etc. I hope to work here soon. But in Tollywood, people have a very different perception of me. Since they have already seen me in a glam avatar, they refuse to believe that I can look good in Indian clothes. During a recent audition, I had to wear salwar-kameez to make them see the other me. Its tough for me to break that stereotype. Bollywood is more open.
Ive always loved performing arts My love for dancing began when I was three. I still remember emulating Raveena Tandon in Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast from Mohra. My parents were surprised that I had the dancing streak in me and soon, they enrolled me for Bharatanatyam classes. Of late, Ive been taking lessons in Hindustani classical music.
It's an uphill task to make it big As a model-turned-actress, it took me a while to gain a foothold in the film industry. Getting a film isnt that hard. But it takes a long time to be part of a good project.
