Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao on Tuesday suspended two YSR Congress legislators R. Sivaprasada Reddy and M. Mani Gandhi for the rest of the session for uprooting the mikes of the Chair.
The motion for their suspension was moved by Legislative Affairs Minister Yanamala Ramakrishunudu, when the House re-assembled after the second adjournment during the day’s business. The motion was adopted by voice vote. The Minister said they also tried to attack the Chair and proposed recovery of the costs of the damage caused by the two members from their salaries.
The unsavoury incident happened moments before the House was adjourned for the second time, when the YSR Congress legislators were in the well and at the podium demanding more time for the Leader of the Opposition to speak on the budget. The Speaker held together the uprooted mikes and kept them on the inner desk before adjourning the House for 15 minutes at 10.51 a.m.
Even as the Speaker directed the suspended members to leave the House, the two remained in the well of the House protesting their suspension. Wearing black badges, the YSR Congress MLAs raised slogans against the biased attitude of the Chair and demanded justice.
Privilege motion against Chevi ReddyEarlier, Government Chief Whip Kalava Srinivasaulu moved a privilege motion against another YSR Congress MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy on the charges of casting aspersions against the Chair on August 22. The Speaker promised to look into the matter.
Speaking at the media point, Mr. Bhaskar Reddy said he had neither intended to nor disrespected the Chair. He had only sought to know why the Speaker had allowed TDP members to brand YSRC members smugglers, assassins, bandicoots and terrorists. Reading out what he had stated on August 22, he reiterated that he only wanted the Chair to treat their floor leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s remarks of “buffoons” on parity with those made by the ruling party members.
“I only requested justice from the Chair and did not cast any aspersions,” he stated.
