Morcha for water on Thursday
MUMBAI: NGO Paani Haq Samiti will hold a morcha at Chaityabhoomi, Dadar, today to demand water supply to all.
The Samiti had filed a PIL in the Bombay high court demanding water for slum-dwellers who had settled in Mumbai post-1995 as part of their fundamental right to life.
The high court had directed the BMC to make water available to all slum-dwellers. However, the BMC is yet to implement the decision.
The Samiti plans to commemorate Dr B R Ambedkar's march to the chavdar talao in Mahad demanding equal rights to water. Sitaram Shelar, activist, said they wanted to use the occasion to highlight the plight of lakhs of slum-dwellers in Mumbai who have been deprived of access to water.
