Surrey RCMP interview South Asian suspect in fatal pedestrian hit-and-run in Surrey’s Bridgeview area

PT Cruiser_2SURREY RCMP has confirmed the identity of the driver of the vehicle involved in a fatal pedestrian hit and run collision that occurred in the early morning of March 12 (Thursday).

Officers sat down with the driver Friday afternoon and spoke with him and the driver provided his version of the event.  Once the statement was completed the driver was allowed to return to his residence.

Police say investigators have a great deal of work ahead of them prior to being ready for charge approval.  Investigators are in the process of obtaining a warrant to search and recover evidence from the vehicle. That evidence along with other evidence gathered to date will be send to the lab for DNA analysis.

Additionally, police are having a mechanical inspection completed on the semi truck to ensure there wasn’t any mechanical issue that caused the crash.  Lab reports along with a number of other external reports required to complete the investigation will take a number of months to receive.  Once received Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team will produce a report and forward to Crown Counsel for review and potential charge approval.

Crash investigators are also looking to speak to the operator of a dark coloured (thought to be black or dark purple) PT Cruiser that drove past the crash scene on Thursday, March 12 at about 3:30 a.m., a mere 10 seconds after the crash. Investigators would like to speak to the driver of that vehicle to determine what if anything that person can say about the crash. (See photo).

Anyone with further information about this incident including the location of the driver is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP CCIT at 604-599-0502 or CrimeStoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca for additional ways to leave a tip.
