Continue seizure of plastic carry bags: TNPCB

March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has suggested to government to ensure that local body authorities continue seizure of plastic carry bags without registration details and those not conforming to thickness regulation.

This was conveyed in an additional counter affidavit filed by the Environment and Forests Department to a writ petition before the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the authorities to immediately take all such preventive measures including prosecution of those who sold plastic carry bags to their customers.

Following a court order, the TNPCB held a meeting with officials on January 9 and made the draft recommendations which included the setting up of required number of non-biodegradable waste collection centres and feedstock recycling facilities.
