On Sunday morning, Yadava College in Thiruppalai was reverberating with laughter and joy. Nearly 60 students of 1992-95 B.Com batch gathered there for a reunion. They shared their happiness, mingled with their old teachers and recalled their college days.
At Thiagarajar College in Teppakulam too, it was fun and frolic as commerce students of the 1991-94 batch had an alumni meet. There was a complete informality as old professors sat along with old students sharing jokes.
These are ‘down memory lane’ days as many colleges, including The American College, Madurai Medical College and Agricultural College and Research Institute, had reunion meetings.
The get together meets are a chance for old students to show a sense of gratitude to their colleges, departments and teachers. At Yadava College, the presence of former Principal G. Thiruvasagam who came from Chennai to be with his old students for a day, indicated the bonhomie that existed. At Thiagarajar College, Principal T. Rajasekar and commerce department head I. Nagarajan sat through the informal interaction with old students. For senior doctors like D.P.S. Kamala Ragul too, life is all about friendship.
“I am proud to belong to the 1971 MBBS batch of Madurai Medical College. Three years ago when our batch had a reunion at Poovar island resort, I was almost bedridden with a spine problem. Still I could go there due to psychological support of my batch friends,” she said.
P. Alagesan, a 1978 batch B.Sc.(zoology) student of The American College who attended a reunion on March 8, said meeting after 35 years was the best thing to happen.
