Uncle abducts boy to avenge insult

March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - New Delhi:

A 10-year-old boy, kidnapped for ransom at the behest of his own uncle to avenge an insult heaped on him by the victim’s father, was rescued and three men associated with the crime were arrested.

The police said the child’s father, a resident of Ekta Vihar, approached the RK Puram police station with a complaint on March 17.

“He said that his 10-year-old son had gone to school in the morning. Around 12 p.m. he received a call wherein the caller said that his son had been kidnapped by him and demanded a ransom of Rs. 30 lakh,” said a senior police officer.

The kidnapper also threatened the victim’s father that in case the ransom was not delivered by 5 p.m., the child would be killed.

The child’s father received another call during the course of which, the police asked him to negotiate with the kidnapper and settle for a ransom money of just Rs. 5 lakh.

“The kidnapper asked the complainant to arrange the money and wait for his next call, and switched off the mobile phone. The police tracked the caller somewhere in Udyog Vihar near Mangolpuri,” said the officer.

This was followed by a raid on the premises from where the ransom call originated, but the accused escaped. At the same time, the complainant received another call from the kidnapper, who asked about the ransom money. On the instructions of the police, the complainant agreed to pay the ransom and was asked to reach under the Zakhira Bridge. A trap was laid even as the complainant with the ransom money left for the designated stop followed by a police team.

“The culprits sensed the presence of police and left the boy abandoned near the Zakhira Bridge, but left their motorcycle at the spot. Even as the police ascertained that the said motorcycle had been stolen in Mongolpuri, the child told them that his uncle Sunil was behind his kidnapping,” the officer added.

Further investigation led the police team to Bhagwan Dass, Tarkeshwar and Karan, all residents of Mongolpuri. Raids are being conducted at possible hideouts of the remaining accused, and the victim’s uncle, Sunil.
