MLAs will be censured, says Speaker

March 19, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:26 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

Members of the Kerala Legislative Assembly who distributed ‘laddus’ on the floor of the House on Match 13 after the presentation of the annual budget will be censured, Speaker N. Sakthan has said.

Mr. Sakthan, who was speaking to the media persons after meeting Nair Service Society (NSS) general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair at Perunna on Wednesday, said that the conduct of the MLAs in distributing sweets on the day of the budget presentation in the Assembly breached the rules concerned. Distribution of sweets was wrong since food items were banned in the House.

Mr. Sakthan’s earlier statement on the sweet distribution to the effect that he had not witnessed it had raised a controversy. However, he chose to clarify his stance and said he had left the floor of the House soon after the budget presentation.

“From the chamber I could not see the sweet distribution. I came to know about the incident later, after an inquiry,” he said.
