Capital punishment — a defence

Televised hangings might provide stark reminder to terrorists, capital offenders of horrifying end that may await them

ISLAMABAD: As the European Union once again condemns the lifting of the moratorium on hangings for capital offences in Pakistan, it is observed that 32 states in the US, the federal US government and the US military employ the death penalty for capital offences. Due to a shortage of lethal injection drugs, many states are considering reverting to the electric chair and the gas chamber for executions. In Saudi Arabia, capital offenders are publically beheaded. Iran, North Korea and Somalia also employ public executions.

In this war on terrorism, with Pakistan labelled as a key exporter of terrorists in the world, perhaps, televised public hangings might provide a stark reminder to terrorists and capital offenders of the horrifying end that might await them if they are apprehended and convicted of their crimes.
