Lola Lovina - 'Rroma Sapien'

Inspired by overseas study and with a great new band, this Sydney group fronted by Hungarian Romani singer Sarah Bedak and Serbian Romani guitarist and drummer Nenad Radic have made an album that swings easily from traditional to groundbreaking Rroma music, all imbued with a tremendous sense of fun.

Other members of this excellent band are piano accordionist Marjan Nedeski, clarinetist Orget Sadiku, violinist Branko Ristic and trumpeter and sousaphonist Sam Golding. We'll also hear Dragan Ristic and his band Kal, from their album Romology, its title song co-written by Dragan and Sarah while she was studying in the Balkans. Blues from Dave and Phil Alvin, Western Swing from Asleep at the Wheel and Pokey LaFarge and the Old Crow Medicine Show, flamenco from Paco de Lucia and Estrella Morente and swing era sounds from Anne McCue.
