Nothing Rajasthani about Rajasthan Day celebrations

Some artistes of Rajasthan Forum plan to write a letter to the CM, to protest against not many local artistes being invited to perform at the event
Nothing Rajasthani about Rajasthan Day celebrations
Rajasthan Day Celebrations, being organized by the Rajasthan tourism department, are all set to be held on a grand scale from March 24 to 30.
The event is set to cover everything from bhakti sangeet and musical concerts to adventure sports. However, a section of Rajasthani artistes and art lovers are disappointed with the absence of local Rajasthani artistes in the lineup.
In fact, the musical lineup of the event, which includes Papon, Wadali Brothers, Raghu Dixit, etc, gives a sense of déjà vu, since these artistes also performed for Jayantika, which was held in December to mark the one-year anniversary of the state government. Even in the series where classical dances of India like bharatnatyam, odissi and koodiyattam will be showcased, no local classical dancer has been invited, despite Jaipur being the famous gharana of music, especially in kathak and dhrupad. The only Rajasthani artistes to get a spot in the lineup are Mir Mukhtiyar Ali and Chhuge Khan.
Nothing Rajasthani about it:
Travel writer Tripti Pandey says, "There is nothing Rajasthani about these festivals. The weeklong celebrations have heavyweights and some very popular Bollywood performers, but how will that help the cause of the tourism department? I am not discounting the talent of the people who've been invited, but the idea of the celebrations should be to attract more visitors in the city.Having Bollywood artistes and dancers and musicians from other states won't promote tourism in Rajasthan. The festival should focus on attracting more domestic and international tourists with Rajasthani art, culture and lifestyle."
A letter to the CM:
To protest against this, a group of artistes from Rajasthan Forum is writing a letter to chief minister Vasundhara Raje. Padma Shri awardee and sculptor Arjun Prajapati, who is also a member of Rajasthan Forum, says, "Jaipur has an array of refined artistes in folk as well as classical music, who are regularly invited to national and international festivals. But whenever it comes to local fairs and festivals, the government ignores them. Calling artistes from outside and ignoring local talent will not give out a good message. We will write to the chief minister, asking her to take an immediate decision and give equal weightage to Rajasthani art and artistes in these celebrations."

Jaipur gharana is one of the most notable schools of music:
Well-known dhrupad singer Madhu Bhatt Tailang says, "I am a little put off by this lineup of artistes, and the way Rajasthani artistes are being ignored by the selection committee. Jaipur gharana has been one of the most notable schools of music. From dhrupad to khayal gayaki to kathak, it has always stood out. Our state has given so many brilliant artistes who are invited to the most coveted musical festivals across the world. But at the same time, our talent is being ignored in our state."
People won't like only Rajasthani performers:
When we contacted Shailendra Agarwal, principal secretary , tourism, he said, "To give variety in terms of performances, we have invited artistes from all across the country . We cannot have only Rajasthani artistes, since people will not even like it.As far as Rajasthani artistes are concerned, Mir Mukhtiyar Ali and Chhuge Khan will be giving a Rajasthani touch to the event. And it's not the same lineup as Jayantika.Papon, Mir Mukhtiyar Ali, Wadali Brothers and Raghu Dixit were in that event, too, but Raghu could not perform."
