Foreign investment to improve farm output

ISLAMABAD
Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan says the government is making efforts to attract foreign investors to invest in the agriculture sector of Pakistan.
Addressing a news conference in Islamabad Tuesday, he said foreign investment in agriculture will help improve farm production. The minister said the National Assembly has passed The Seed (Amendment) Bill, 2014, which will allow the private sector to produce basic seed for its multiplication and certification. He said the bill will also authorize registration of genetically modified crops under certain conditions. Sikandar Hayat Bosan said the bill will also enhance penalties for effective deterrence against sale of sub-standard seed in the market.
