NEW DELHI: Days before Avinash Dikshit, commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, demits office, the HRD ministry has ordered an inquiry against him for his role in making German the third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas, besides other allegations.
Ministry sources said that the inquiry has been ordered as many complaints, including from BJP MP Udit Raj, were received against Dikshit.
The probe is likely to be conducted by the HRD ministry’s department of higher education.
However, the ministry is silent on why he alone is being probed. An MoU with another country could not have been signed without concurrence of HRD ministry officials. “The decision to ink an MoU was taken by the KVS board so how can Dikshit be blamed,” said one source familiar with the chronology of signing of MoU.
Sources said after the Supreme Court did not find anything wrong in the NDA’s decision to discontinue German as third language in KV schools, the ministry thinks that responsibility should be fixed. “MoU with Germany was violative of our laws and interest,” a ministry source said. Dikshit, an officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service, wanted to renew the MoU with Goethe-Institute of Germany despite being told by the ministry that the existing MoU was not based on reciprocity, and was at the cost of Sanskrit and against the spirit of National Curriculum Framework of 2005.
