Ghaziabad must wait till next summer for power relief
GHAZIABAD: The district electricity department will construct at least 15 substations in urban and rural areas to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the city. Officials said the state's power supply would be augmented to 22,000MW from 13,000MW by June next year.
The move follows chief minister Akhilesh Yadav's election promise to provide 24 hours of electricity in major cities, 22 hours in towns and 16 hours in rural areas.
"We are working on a deadline of June 2016 to construct all substations and hope to meet the deadline," said A K Gupta, chief engineer, Pashchimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL).
Of the 15, seven substations will be constructed in the Ciss-Hindon area, two in Trans-Hindon and six in rural pockets.
The seven areas in Ciss-Hindon which have been earmarked for the construction are Shastri Nagar 2, Bahmeta, Akbarpur-Balrampur, Lal Kuan 2, Lohia Nagar Park, Meerut Road 2 and Mathura road. "Two transformers each of 10 MvA will be installed in these seven areas," said S B Yadav, superintending engineer, PVVNL. The areas marked in Trans Hindon are Kharheda and Sahibabad 2. Apart from these, six substations will be constructed in rural pockets like Mandora and Dasna (rural). "The substations will be constructed at a tentative cost of about Rs 75 crore and will each have a capacity of 33/11kV," Gupta said.
Ghaziabad witnessed acute power shortage last summer and officials hope that the new substations will drastically improve the power scenario in the district.
According to PVVNL officials, the state's power supply will be augmented to 22,000MW from 13,000MW by June next year, and infrastructure is being strengthened all over the state to meet to this expectation.
