S. Muthu (30), Village Administrative Officer of South Mayilodai in Kayathar, was allegedly murdered by a gang in Amman Kovil Street at Thalayalnadanthankulam around 10.30 p.m. on Monday. According to police, the VAO had an illicit affair with a 24-year-old married woman. When the affair came to light, her husband waylaid Muthu, who was riding a bike, along with his accomplices and hacked him to death with a sharp-edged weapon. Muthu sustained injuries on his head, chest and neck, and died. Two persons, including Petchiammal (24), wife of Sudalai, the prime accused at large, and Vellaimmal (66), wife of Manoharan, were arrested by Kayathar police based on a complaint lodged by D. John (45) of South Mayilodai village. Further investigation is on.
