Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists took out constituency-level marches to the offices of United Democratic Front (UDF) legislators K. Sivadasan Nair, M.A. Wahid, Shibu Baby John, A.T. George, and Dominic Presentation on Tuesday accusing them of having misbehaved with women Left Democratic Front (LDF) MLAs in the Assembly on March 13.

Clashes

Tension prevailed at Chavara, Mr. Baby John’s constituency, in the morning as DYFI activists and RSP workers clashed.

Several persons from both sides were injured in stone throwing between the two sides.

The DYFI activists also held public meetings at block centres over the issue in different parts of the State.

BJP flays ‘assault’

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shobha Surendran said here on Tuesday that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan should apologise for the ‘assault’ on women members of the Assembly.

The BJP leader said the happenings during the presentation of the budget in the Assembly last Friday were aimed at diverting attention from the bribery charges against Finance Minister K.M. Mani. The Opposition had complicit in the effort to save Mr. Mani.

Ms. Surendran said that the Opposition had used the women members as a shield and that was an unpardonable offence.
