NASHIK: A delegation of a Panchvati-based group met commissioner of police Kulwant Kumar Sarangal on Tuesday to appraise him about the willingness of nearly 1,000 people from across the city to assist his department as volunteers.
Sarangal said the verification of the people concerned would be done at the police station level, following which their physical fitness would be checked and training imparted.

In response to the call from the city police to organisations having more than a group of 100 people to approach them if they were interested in working alongside the police as volunteers for the religious congregation, the Kumbha Mela Goda Premi Seva Samiti in Panchvati, led by Panchvati resident Devang Jani, submitted a list a nearly 1,000 volunteers.
Sarangal appreciated the efforts of the organiasation and informed them about the necessary exercises such as character verification and checking physical fitness before they were imparted training on various things.
Since 80 to 85% of the volunteers enlisted by the organisation are from the Panchvati area, the commissioner said that the police department was in need of volunteers from all across the city. “There are inner parking and outer parkings, apart from holding areas and different routes through which the pilgrims would reach the river banks or the ghat areas for the holy dip in the river waters. We would also need volunteers from other parts of the city,” said Sarangal.
