Gautam Deb hospitalised with swine flu, ‘critical’

The doctors described his condition as ‘critical and stable’.

The former housing minister of West Bengal and senior CPM leader, Gautam Deb has been admitted to AMRI hospital in Salt Lake here on Tuesday after testing positive for swine flu.

The doctors described his condition as ‘critical and stable’. Deb, who was suffering from high fever for the last few days, was rushed to the hospital in the wee hours after his health deteriorated, where he tested H1N1 positive.

A medical bulletin issued by the hospital stated that the 61-year-old leader is on ventilator support. The doctor treating Deb said he is ‘critical’ because he is on ventilation and ‘stable’ because his blood pressure is normal and he could identify his family members.

Apart from several CPM leaders who came to meet the member of the party’s Central Committee, state education minister Partha Chatterjee also paid Deb a visit and inquired about his health. “I was instructed by Chied Minister Mamata Banerjee to visit Gautam Deb.
