Rights panel suggests scheme for minor survivors
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) on Tuesday recommended that a scheme like Ladli Laxmi Yojana be introduced for minor survivors. The commission said the government should formulate a scheme with provision of compensation for survivors and crimes committed against minors, in six months.
The suggestion comes after the commission took cognizance of the rape of a seven-year-old girl in Balaghat recently.
The commission directed the government to pay Rs 1 lakh to survivor’s father as compensation in one month.
The survivor was returning home from anganwadi when her modesty was outraged. The commission also asked the government to create safe environment for girls who go to anganwadi. The minor lost mental balance after the incident. When the commission made a query in this regard, Balaghat collector replied that there was no provision for compensation following which the commission made recommendation to state government and directed to send a compliance report in a month.
