ATC directs Musharraf to appear before medical board on April 6

Quetta- An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Quetta has accepted former president Pervez Musharraf’s plea for exemption from appearance in Akbar Bugti murder case, and ordered him to appear before medical board in Karachi on April 6.

ATC judge Aftab Ahmed Lone of court no.1 resumed hearing of the case today. During case proceedings, Musharraf’s lawyer Akhtar Shah informed the court that his client cannot appear before court, due to illness and security reasons, thus, he should be granted exemption from appearance. The court accepted the plea.

Baluchistan DG Health Dr Farooq Azam Jan also presented his reported in the court, in which he stated that the former military ruler did not appear before medical board. On this, the defense lawyer clarified that Services Hospital is situated in Lyari area of the metropolis and Musharraf cannot go there, due to inadequate security measures.

The court directed Sindh Home Secretary to provide security to the accused and adjourned the case hearing till April 8, 2015. Nawab Akbar Bugti, former chief minister of Baluchistan and head of his tribe, was killed in 2006 an operation.
