Budget misses out on subsidy to promote solar energy

Andhra Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation president Muthavarapu Muralikrishna said that the government should have announced subsidy for solar energy generation by individual residential house owners. As of now, solar energy was limited to parks.

Likewise, the wind energy could be generated on residential roof tops as technology was available. The government was also expected to announce sops for green energy , he felt.

AP Small Industries Association president T. Pardha Saradhi said that the industry was not facing any power supply problem as of now.

A provision of Rs.4,360 crore was proposed in the budget.

But, the industry expected that the government would rationalise power tariff on par with other States. But, no such measures were announced, he said.

Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, in his budget speech, said that the government was committed to provide reliable, adequate and affordable 24x7 power supply to domestic, industrial, commercial and seven to nine hours supply to 14.85 lakh agriculture consumers in the State.

The Minister said that the government was making a provision of Rs.4,360 crore in the budget for energy sector. The government was developing 2500-MW solar power parks in Ananthapuram, Kurnool and Kadapa Districts, he said.
