Bundaberg council defends decision not to release details of plan to cut waste facility hours
The Bundaberg Regional Council in southern Queensland has stood by its decision not to release details of a plan to cut hours at its waste facilities, saying the community will get a chance to provide feedback.
The council had been briefing staff on the proposed changes but said releasing the details would be premature.
It is understood to include reducing opening hours at the University Drive facility by two hours per day and closing rural waste transfer stations earlier and on more days.
A document obtained by the ABC tells staff the matter is operational and requires council endorsement before being communicated to the public by December 1.
A council spokesman said councillors would be briefed on the plan one week before the vote and that would give the community "plenty of time" to provide feedback.
He said no date had been set for discussion on the plan.
Mayor Mal Forman said the issue had been discussed and was likely to be voted on in the next month.
"Well it's all about trying to be more efficient and ... how can we save costs ... and that's one of the things but we're trying to get a balance right across the region with it all," he said.
