NA-122 record sent to Nadra for thumb impressions’ verification

LAHORE - The record of NA-122, the constituency of Lahore from where Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was elected as member National Assembly (MNA) and Imran Khan was a runner-up candidate, was sent on Monday to Nadra for verification of voters’ thumb impressions.
The returning officer (RO) collected record of 284 polling stations of the constituency from Punjab treasury branch and delivered the same to Nadra in tight security.
Earlier, the election tribunal had ordered Nadra to hold verification of the voters’ thumb impressions allowing an application of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan.
Mr Khan had already deposited Rs18,34,000 as cost for the verification process.
A local commission headed by a retired judge Ghulam Hussain has already submitted its report and found many discrepancies in the record.
The tribunal, however, had to decide the matter but PTI chief Imran Khan filed another application seeking verification of voters’ thumb impressions through Nadra.
Mr Khan had challenged the victory of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq from NA-122, alleging that he was elected after massive rigging in the polls. He pleaded the court to set aside election and order the authorities concerned to announce re-election in the constituency, and punish those who were involved in the rigging.  In NA-118, Hamid Zaman of PTI has deposited a bank draft wroth Rs 11,32,738 in favor of Nadra to carry out verification of voters’ thumb impressions in connection with alleged rigging in the constituency.
Hamid deposited the said amount on the direction of the election tribunal.
Hamid Zaman, who was a runner-up candidate of the PTI in the said constituency, had challenged the victory of Malik Riaz of PML-N. He had alleged massive rigging in 2013 general election on part of returned candidate Riaz Malik.
