Villagers from Pudhupatti in Alagapuri panchayat in Alanganallur union complained to Collector L. Subramanian on Monday that the subsidy amount due to them for construction of Individual Household Latrines (IHHL) under the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyaan scheme had not been settled.
“We began construction of latrines last April and completed it within two months. Despite submitting the required documents with photographs of the latrines constructed to the officials at Alanganallur union office, we haven’t been compensated with the subsidy amount yet,” said K. Meena, from Alagapuri. Kodi Pechiammal, an NGO worker in the area, said out of the 65 households who had constructed the IHHLs, only 25 had got the full amount of Rs. 10,200.
“Under the scheme, they are entitled to get Rs. 3,200 from the Central government, Rs. 2,500 from the State government and are additionally entitled to Rs. 4,500 if they work for the construction of the latrines. Most of the women have got only a part of the subsidy payment and have been waiting for it for more than six months,” she explained.
The villagers submitted the petition to the Collector who said that he would forward their grievance to the block development officials.
