Floor Leader of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) Akbaruddin Owaisi on Monday requested the government to convene a meeting of Muslim legislators with the Chief Minister to discuss problems being faced by the community and other minorities, and to find ways to address their woes.
Participating in the general discussion on the budget, Mr. Owaisi made subtle criticism of the government by complimenting its efforts for the welfare of the underprivileged and development of the State on one hand and pointing out shortcomings in the implementation of government programmes on the other. He urged the government to allocate funds through the green channel for minority welfare. Mr. Owaisi sought to know how the government planned to overcome the revenue deficit of power distribution companies. He explained that the aggregate revenue requirement of two discoms in the State for 2015-16 was Rs. 26,474 crore but the revenue projection was only Rs. 18,909 crore and the total deficit would be about Rs. 7,500 crore. The deficit would come down with the allocation of Rs. 4,257 crore for subsidy by the government but it would still leave another Rs. 3,219 crore shortfall, the MIM member said.
He alleged that there was high-level corruption in the Godavari water scheme for Hyderabad.
