TOKYO, JAPAN – His Majesty the King has urged the YKK Zippers Corporation to continue to grow in the Kingdom of eSwatini while encouraging fellow Japanese investors to follow suit.

YKK Zippers is about to complete four decades of doing business in Swaziland having set up shop in 1976. The King has applauded this commitment and faith in the local economy, which has seen the company make a significant contribution to economic growth in terms of tax revenue, job creation, export earnings and business linkages.

“I take this opportunity to confirm our willingness and commitment to support any expansion and reinvestment that YKK wishes to consider in the future.
“I further request the YKK group to extend our invitation to YKK corporate and business partners and other companies in Japan to consider investing in the Kingdom of Swaziland and wish to give assurance of my government’s exceptional reception and facilitation of their business interests,” he said.

The King was speaking at a luncheon hosted by the President of the YKK Corporation, Masiyuki Sarumaru, yesterday. The company initially invested E2.25 million in 1976, which has risen to E75.9 million in capital and reserves.
The jobs created have more than doubled over the period and currently stand at 169.

In 1986 the YKK Group invested close to E5 million in factory buildings containing plant and machinery estimated at E113 million, which has contributed to increased property values in the Matsapha Municipality.
