BICHOLIM: The North Goa truck drivers association has taken a decision not to support BJP fielded candidates for the March 18 zilla panchayat polls. The decision was taken on the grounds that the government has ‘failed’ to provide them any kind of a financial package as their members too were badly hit by the closure of mining activities in the last two years.
The decision to this effect was taken at a special meeting of North Goa truck drivers association that was convened at Honda Sattari on March 15.

During the meeting, president of the association Vishnu Sawal said that the truck drivers association had requested the government to provide them a financial package on the lines of what was provided to the truck owners in order to solve the problem of acute financial crunch being faced by them due to stoppage of mining activities in the state.
Sawal said that the BJP government had initially assured to fulfill their demand, but later began adopting delaying tactics. “The truck drivers have therefore finally decided to vote against BJP,” added Sawal. tnn
