The poet and playwright, Kotiganahalli Ramaiah said the word ‘Dalit’ is being misinterpreted and also misused by selfish people to meet their political ends.

After inaugurating Essay Writing Workshop for dalit youths at Tumkur University here on Monday, Mr. Ramaiah said that the debate on Dalit should be focused on social and economic aspects and not on the political ground as it is being done.

Referring to the demand for a Dalit Chief Minister, Ramaiah said it is a game plan to divert the real issues affecting the oppressed classes.

In the present day of globalisation and liberalisation, the native culture of people is being undermined and attempt is being made to destroy it, he said.

Not giving education to people including women for thousands of years is a major crime and it could be compared to a holocaust that annihilates people en mass by using crude methods.

The globalization and corporatization have a hidden agenda of destroying the Indian culture so as to promote their interests and make fast money out of it.

Vice-Chancellor of Tumakur University, Prof. A.H. Rajasab was present at the program.
