Indian education system: Serious changes required?
A makeover for the Great Indian education system

The reported Class X Geography paper leak at Bombay Scottish school in Mumbai conducted by ICSE board has been a shocking news and once redirects the spotlight back on the required makeover of the Indian education system.

The Indian education system has been giving a lot of emphasis on the importance of memorising with students trying to memorize the books rather than working on innovation, discovery or inventing new things. HRD minister Smriti Irani hasn't given any reaction to the reported leak yet, but the government might put this opportunity to use for restructuring the entire examination process demonstrating numerous loopholes and giving opportunity for manipulation. Just before the exams, Modi gave an inspiring speech to the students via radio, showing that it was time for him to take action. He asked the students not to worry about the results and focus on writing the exams well. With a paper leak controversy lingering at their head, students are already scared and too anxious, as reported by the Business Standard.

The new generation of students in the country are comparatively more efficient and smarter, and have access to varied sources of information. This is a big advantage in the globalised world as students are aware of what's happening around the world and how to compete with students from other countries. The HRD ministry is expected to immediately draw up a direction map to restructure the education boards, and reduce the burden on students by making the exams more innovative, than stressful.
