CBI probe demanded into murders in southern districts

March 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - NAGERCOIL:

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader and former M.P. Thol Thirumavalavan urged the government to order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murders that took place in southern districts in the recent past.

Addressing the party’s ‘Social and Religious Harmony’ conference at Nagaraja Thidal here on Saturday, Mr. Thirumavalavan said ever since the National Democratic Alliance government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, came to power at the Centre, religious clashes had increased in the country. Violence against Dalits, tribals and minorities had also increased. Minorities and tribals were forced to convert to Hinduism. Freedom of speech was under threat in the State for the past few months, he added.

The 10 resolutions passed at the conference demanded among other things two reserved Assembly segments in the district, issue of community certificates with caste names mentioned for Christian converts, establishment of an exclusive industrial park for rubber in Kulasekaram area, and steps to prevent sea erosion in Colachel and other vulnerable areas.

Leaders of various political and religious outfits participated in the conference.

‘Violence against Dalits, tribals and minorities has increased. Minorities and tribals are forced to convert to Hinduism.’
