21-yr-old kills self after sending WhatsApp message to his mother

The police said he had married one Tarunam in October last year and allegedly committed suicide due to marital problems that he and his wife were facing over the last couple of months.

“Samad had sent his mother a WhatsApp message at 7.55 am on Sunday stating that he was going to take his life because of Tarunam. Shortly after sending the message, Samad jumped from either the 19th or 21st floor of the building. But no one saw him jump. Samad and Tarunam had been living separately for the past couple of weeks, which had left the victim completely distraught,” said an officer with the Charkop police.

The couple had moved into the MHADA building after their marriage five months ago and lived in a rented apartment on the 19th floor.

“Samad’s body could not be identified by the other residents since his head and body were completely smashed. When the police reached the spot, they found the victim’s phone, which was also broken. We first switched the SIM card to another phone, but received no calls.

Then we got the cellphone fixed and contacted Samad’s mother Reshma to inform her of the incident at 12 pm,” the officer said.

The officer added that Reshma shared the details of the message she received on Sunday morning from her son.

A case of accidental death has been registered with the Charkop police. Further, the police are waiting for the family to decide if they want to press charges against Tarunam for abetment to suicide under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
