MUMBAI: A 22-year-old post-graduate ended his life by jumping from the 19th floor of a 24-storey Mhada building in Ekta Nagar, Charkop, on Sunday. People residing on the lower floors of building number 55 heard a loud thud at 8am and found that a resident had committed suicide. The Charkop police was called to the spot and identified the deceased as Anmol Chandan (22) after repairing the broken mobile that belonged to him.

Prima facie, Chandan took the extreme step due to some domestic dispute with his wife, who was not staying with him since the last four months. “The deceased was in love with a girl in his college. Initially, his parents were against the match but later they agreed to the marriage. His parents, who reside at Lokhandwala in Andheri, used to pay for Chandan’s monthly expenses after the marriage,” said a police officer.
DCP (Zone XI) Balsing Rajput confirmed the incident. He said the police were in touch with Chandan’s parents and trying to get details that could help them find the reason for his act. The police have not found any suicide note. A case of suicide has been registered.
Chandan moved into the 11th floor of the Mhada building fter he got married. “He has been staying alone since November 2014 after his wife went back to her parents after a dispute with him,” said the Charkop police.
No one in the building saw Chandan walking upstairs before he jumped off. “It’s suspected that he jumped from the 19th floor because the common passage from this floor was open. Residents could not identify him. We tried to get details through the SIM card of his mobile but he did not store any numbers. Later, we repaired his mobile and got in touch with his parents,” said senior inspector Ramchandra Gaikwad. Chandan was staying on rent in the building.
