Vasan expresses concern over caste conflicts

March 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - TUTICORIN:

The Tamil Maanila Congress leader, G. K. Vasan, has exuded confidence that people of Tamil Nadu will create an opportunity to restore Kamraj rule.

Unveiling a statue of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj at Servaikaranmadam in Tuticorin district on Friday evening, Mr. Vasan recalled that the State was in the forefront in all areas during the regime of Kamaraj, 48 years ago. But, unfortunately, it was lagging behind on all fronts now.

He appealed to the Centre to announce more funds for the outer harbour development project of V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin. The UPA had announced the Rs. 7,500 crore project in the 2013-14 Union budget.

Expressing concern over the caste conflicts in southern districts, especially in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin, the former Union Shipping Minister said that it was saddening that the State government did not show much attention to the recent incidents of violence and murder.

The Chief Minister should intervene to ensure peace and safety in these two neighbouring districts, Mr. Vasan said.
