‘Permission to conduct camp not taken from CMO’: Health Minister

A committee under the chairmanship of SDM of Samalkha has been constituted for legal investigation.

The organisation which performed cataract surgeries on 19 patients did not take permission from the Chief Medical Officer, said Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij who visited the patients at PGI on Saturday.

A four-member committee has been formed to enquire into the matter, he added.

“The eyes of 19 people got infected after they were operated upon at Navjeevan Medicare LLP in Panipat. The CMO said no permission was taken from him, and without his permission one cannot hold such camps. Action would be taken against the guilty,” the minister said.

The committee constituted to investigate the matter includes Medical Superintendent of Panipat, Dr S K Gupta; Deputy Civil Surgeon of Panipat, Dr Sashi Garg; eye specialist Dr Shalini Mehta and microbiologist Dr Preeti Bhatia.

Besides, a committee under the chairmanship of SDM of Samalkha has been constituted for legal investigation.

“This is an unfortunate incident. Of 19, 14 patients have been admitted to PGI and the remaining five are being treated in Panipat. The state government will bear the expenses of their treatment,” the minister said.

Vij said the operations were conducted by Dr Ankur Gupta.
